Product Manager, Accounting Domain

In this role, you will own the product direction for Re-Leased’s accounting capability set. This area covers the financial functions that must remain accurate, compliant, and dependable for property managers, including reconciliation, trust accounting, ledgers, tax handling, payments, and ERP integrations. Precision matters here because even small mistakes can create major financial or regulatory impact.

You will be accountable for discovery, delivery, and product quality across your area, working closely with customers, engineering, finance-facing stakeholders, and adjacent teams. The role also expects you to use AI tools as part of everyday product work, including research synthesis, spec drafting, prototyping, and context-building. The team is actively developing these practices, so fluency with AI-assisted product workflows is important.

This position can be based in Napier or anywhere in New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of the roadmap and backlog for two squads focused on accounting, turning customer needs and business priorities into structured work in Azure DevOps, including user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Ship work to agreed timelines while maintaining a very high quality standard, with special attention to data integrity, reconciliation accuracy, and compliance risk.
• Use accounting knowledge to guide product decisions across ledgers, trust accounting, accruals, cash versus accrual treatment, tax, reconciliation, and financial reporting, while accounting for regulatory differences in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
• Serve as the link between customer accounting workflows and the platform, ensuring the product reflects how accountants and finance teams actually operate.
• Work with engineering and finance stakeholders to balance correctness, usability, and delivery risk when making product trade-offs.
• Run customer interviews and analyse product usage data from tools such as Pendo and other analytics platforms to uncover user needs, behaviour patterns, and pain points.
• Translate insights into high-quality product requirements, write detailed PRDs and specifications, and communicate clearly across meetings, one-to-ones, and written updates.
• Lead squad ceremonies with increasing independence and present effectively to both squad members and broader stakeholder groups.
• Use AI tools such as Claude Desktop in daily product work to summarise customer feedback, draft and improve writing, check for missing edge cases, and design strong context using workflows across tools such as ProductBoard, Pendo, and Confluence.
• Use vibe-coding tools as a way to test ideas and express intent, but not for production development.
• Support beta launches and releases by preparing enablement material for support, sales, and customer success teams, and track feature adoption and success after launch.

Experience and background

• Established product management experience in a SaaS or technology business, with evidence of owning a product area and delivering dependable outcomes.
• Strong accounting exposure, gained through a finance/accounting qualification, direct accounting experience, or extensive product work in accounting or fintech.
• Comfort with core accounting concepts such as accruals versus cash basis, ledgers, reconciliation, trust or client accounting, tax, and financial reporting.
• Proven discovery skills, including customer interviews and the ability to convert insights into well-structured product work.
• Solid data literacy, with comfort using analytics tools, understanding data flows, and applying AI for analysis.
• Practical experience with AI-supported product management workflows, including structured context creation and purposeful prototyping.
