Job description

About the Role

Re-Leased is building technology that helps modern property businesses work more efficiently. Its cloud property management platform brings together automation, AI-supported insights, and sector knowledge to simplify daily operations for property professionals.

This position is a senior, individual-contributor legal role with responsibility for all legal matters across the group. The setup is intentionally compact: one highly capable lawyer, supported by AI-enabled legal tools, with the freedom to shape and run the legal function in the most effective way. The company is looking for someone who believes modern tools and strong commercial judgement can deliver the kind of output that once required a larger legal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the group’s commercial contracting and negotiations, including MSAs, partner and channel arrangements, enterprise customer contracts, vendor agreements, and NDAs.
  • Oversee contract adherence, handle disputes, and respond to breaches across the customer base.
  • Create and maintain legal templates, playbooks, and self-service resources so internal teams can move quickly without legal becoming a bottleneck.
  • Use AI tools such as Claude, Spellbook, or similar platforms for drafting, legal research, summaries, and initial contract review.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Australia, including briefing them and incorporating their specialist advice.
  • Ensure corporate governance, statutory compliance, and regulatory filings are completed across all subsidiaries and jurisdictions.
  • Identify and reduce legal and operational risk, including insurance-related issues and regional compliance matters.
  • Help protect the business from potential litigation across global operations, with particular focus on the USA, working with outside counsel where needed.
  • Oversee office lease matters and ensure they align with the wider property strategy.
  • Work closely with the CFO and executive leadership on strategic legal issues.
  • Provide practical, forward-looking advice to the Executive Team and Board on a broad range of matters.

Experience and Profile

  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, ideally gained at a top-tier law firm in New Zealand.
  • International exposure would be advantageous.
  • Strong background in commercial and technology-focused work, with SaaS experience preferred.
  • Comfortable making commercial decisions, not only giving legal analysis.
  • Confident and active user of AI tools, with the ability to discuss how they are already used in day-to-day legal work.
  • Collaborative, business-oriented, and comfortable working closely with internal stakeholders rather than from a distance.

Culture and Values

  • People First: the company operates as one global team and puts employees and customers at the centre.
  • Find a Way: it values practical problem-solving and persistence through obstacles.
  • Win or Learn: continuous improvement matters, and progress is part of the journey.
  • Aim High: the team sets ambitious goals and enjoys challenging itself to reach them.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health insurance.
  • Access to a premium employee assistance programme.
  • An annual wellness allowance that can be used for gym memberships, running shoes, mindfulness apps, or other wellbeing needs.
  • Generous paid parental leave and family-friendly support.
  • Milestone rewards and extra leave to recognise tenure and contribution.
  • Flexible working in a hybrid, remote-friendly environment with collaboration across New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and North America.

Additional Information

This role is designed for someone who wants the autonomy to build and run a lean legal function using modern tools and sound commercial judgement. The company’s distributed team works across multiple regions, and the role is suited to someone who enjoys operating in a global, collaborative environment.
