Job description

Role summary

Lead the complete development journey for the toy assortment, from early concept work through production handoff. This role is responsible for turning ideas into market-ready products that are safe, commercially viable, and delivered on time.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire development flow for assigned toy lines, including concept creation, design, sampling, costing, and final pre-production approval.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage overseas manufacturing partners, with the main focus on suppliers in Asia; handle price negotiations, minimum order quantities, and tooling agreements.
  • Create and monitor target cost structures, then break down landed costs such as FOB, freight, and duty/tariff to protect margin goals.
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams on product specifications, materials, and packaging, and assess samples for fit, performance, and visual appeal.
  • Make sure all products comply with U.S. toy safety requirements, including ASTM F963, CPSIA, and CPSC standards, while coordinating the necessary testing.
  • Keep development schedules on track and manage sample approvals so products are ready for retailer launch deadlines.
  • Partner with sales, sourcing, and quality assurance teams; contribute to retailer line reviews and customer-facing presentations.
  • Monitor competitor products, pricing, and market trends to guide assortment planning and future product direction.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in product development, sourcing, or merchandising, ideally within toys, juvenile products, or consumer hard/soft goods.
  • Hands-on experience working with overseas factories and handling cost negotiations.
  • Familiarity with toy safety regulations such as ASTM F963 and CPSIA is a strong advantage.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, multiple SKUs, and overlapping deadlines.
  • Comfort using cost sheets, specification documents, and product development tracking systems.
  • Open to international travel for factory visits and trade shows.
