Job description
Role overview
This position supports the Produce department by receiving and preparing products, keeping the sales floor and displays in great shape, and helping sell merchandise in line with Whole Foods Market standards. The role also includes breaking down deliveries and restocking shelves.
Customer service and store standards
All retail roles at Whole Foods Market are expected to deliver courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and fellow Team Members at all times while helping protect the company’s image. Work must follow store and team standard operating procedures, support WFM core values and goals, and help advance national, regional, and store programs and initiatives.
Food safety and compliance
The position requires adherence to all applicable health, safety, food safety, and regulatory obligations for the department. Team Members must follow proper procedures for weighing, sanitation, safe work practices, and other compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Keep produce cases and shelves attractive, clean, fully stocked, and properly rotated by facing product, checking dates, and removing expired items.
- Support the Team Leader in arranging and presenting seasonal and high-volume items.
- Track spoilage, reduce waste, and share waste information with buyers, Team Leaders, and the shift supervisor.
- Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep records when required.
- Assist with routine inventory counts.
- Arrive on time, appear properly groomed and ready for work, complete scheduled shifts, and attend required training sessions and meetings.
- Deliver strong customer service, respond quickly to customer needs, and use suggestive selling techniques; answer phones and pages promptly and politely.
- Improve sales by following correct procedures for preparing, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
- Follow established rules for weights and measures, sanitation, and safe working methods.
- Keep the work and shopping areas clean and sanitary, and maintain equipment according to WFM cleanliness and safety expectations.
- Carry out opening, mid-shift, and closing tasks as assigned, including verifying signage and pricing accuracy.
- Report safety concerns and violations immediately.
- Handle other duties assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.
Skills and qualifications
Ideal candidates are proactive sellers, quick learners, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-moving team environment. They should communicate clearly and respectfully with customers, vendors, and teammates, manage time well, and follow directions and procedures reliably. A genuine interest in natural foods and Whole Foods Market’s mission is important.
Experience
No previous retail background is required.
Physical requirements and working conditions
This job involves lifting up to 50 pounds and spending 6 to 8 hours of an 8-hour shift standing or walking. The role also requires single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, plus bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching. Team Members may be exposed to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals and to freezing, refrigerated, and hot environments. Work may involve wet and dry conditions, flexible scheduling including nights, weekends, and holidays, and the use of tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, other heavy machinery, and possibly ladders.

Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this role is CAD 18.50 to CAD 25.00 per hour, depending on experience. Full-Time Team Members may be eligible for Whole Benefits, which can include store discount access, paid time off, financial wellness resources, health and wellness support programs, and other Team Member perks. Eligibility is determined under the applicable plan at hire and may vary by location, length of service, and job type.
