Job description

About OpenAI

OpenAI is dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence serves the good of all humanity. We develop models and products designed to facilitate learning, creativity, and problem-solving, while prioritizing safety and responsibility.

Team Overview

Our users—more than 900 million weekly—are the true voice behind our products, sharing experiences beyond media narratives. Our community team fosters direct connections with these users, gathering insights to inform our product and research efforts and amplifying their stories to help others learn and engage.

Role Summary

We are looking for an outstanding community lead to engage with domain experts ranging from farmers to scientists who utilize ChatGPT and other OpenAI tools in innovative ways. Your mission will be to gather deep insights from these users, convert them into meaningful product feedback and compelling stories that can be shared with wider audiences.

You'll be responsible for building strong, trustworthy relationships within your region, supporting advanced users in testing new offerings, and collaborating closely with OpenAI’s product, research, community, and storytelling teams.

The position blends community engagement, qualitative research, and editorial skill. Success will mean establishing a reliable and repeatable network of diverse, influential users, documenting their experiences thoroughly, and crafting impactful narratives that highlight exemplary use cases.

Impactful Stories Shared by Our Team

  • Mathematicians solving previously unsolvable problems
  • Farmers managing crops using ChatGPT
  • Family-run cereal businesses operating via ChatGPT
  • Astrophysicists creating black hole simulations with Codex
  • Professional race car drivers and cross-country skiers sharing their chat experiences

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and nurture a regional pipeline of sophisticated OpenAI product users, going beyond well-known figures to gain trust across diverse professions and cultural backgrounds, maintaining ongoing relationships.
  • Conduct interviews and, with permission, review users’ interactions with the products to understand workflows and outcomes, then translate these into internal profiles and actionable insights, working collaboratively to craft stories that resonate.
  • Develop a connected community that facilitates peer learning among advanced users, recognizes recurring educational needs and adoption trends, and reflects regional signals into the global program.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Inherent curiosity about people, technologies, and the emergence of new practices.
  • Exceptional ability to discover high-impact individuals before they gain wide recognition.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building trust across various sectors, seniority levels, and cultures.
  • Proficient interviewing, qualitative research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Editorial discernment to identify important, credible, and engaging stories worth communicating.
  • Comfort with AI technologies and sufficient technical understanding to accurately capture complex workflows.
  • Self-driven with agility to operate effectively in fast-paced and uncertain environments.
  • Organizational skills and consistency in managing extensive relationships and opportunities.
  • Sound judgment regarding privacy, consent, confidentiality, and sensitive contexts.
  • Deep knowledge of the cultural, professional, and linguistic landscape of the assigned region.
  • Professional fluency in English and the dominant local language(s).

Ideal Candidate Profile

The best candidates might come from backgrounds such as community management, journalism, qualitative research, talent scouting, partnerships, developer relations, user research, editorial work, or technology ecosystems. More important than the exact background are a combination of curiosity, sound judgment, persistence, strong relational skills, and the ability to highlight exceptional persons and use cases.

This role suits those who enjoy identifying valuable signals early, can seamlessly connect technical workflows with human narratives, and communicate effectively about why specific people or applications merit attention.

Additional Information

The role is based in Singapore and entails frequent travel, including visits to OpenAI offices. It is a fixed-term contract for 12 months.
