Job description

Role Overview

Lemieux & Associates is looking for retired or former law enforcement professionals to step into a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Investigator position in Syracuse, NY. This opportunity is designed for people who have built strong investigative judgment over their careers and want to apply it in a meaningful, civilian setting.

The position focuses on suspicious insurance claim investigations, fieldwork, statement collection, report preparation, and coordination with appropriate parties when required.

Key Duties

  • Examine suspicious insurance claims in detail to determine whether anything appears inconsistent or fraudulent.
  • Speak with claimants, witnesses, and other relevant individuals to gather information.
  • Collect written statements and recorded statements as part of the investigation process.
  • Spot discrepancies, patterns, and indicators that may point to fraud.
  • Carry out on-site investigations and inspect scenes when needed.
  • Prepare clear, professional documentation and reports based on findings.
  • Work with legal professionals and law enforcement contacts when a case calls for it.

Why This Role May Be a Good Fit

Candidate Profile

The employer is seeking applicants with prior law enforcement or investigation experience who are comfortable working on their own, communicating effectively, and producing accurate written work. The ideal candidate should be able to think critically, identify fraud signals, and manage deadlines while maintaining quality.

Tools and Mobility Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • You must have access to a dependable vehicle, a digital camera, and a Windows-based computer with internet access.
  • Travel is part of the job, and the schedule may involve varied or irregular hours.
  • Strong computer and internet literacy is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Notary license is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual ability is an added advantage.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive starting compensation.
  • Payment for travel time.
