Role overview
A well-established middle-market private equity firm is looking to hire an Associate for its New York investment team. The business works with management teams, founders, independent sponsors, and co-investment partners to acquire and help grow strong companies across multiple industries.
This position sits across the full investment process and offers substantial ownership, direct involvement in investment decisions, and regular interaction with experienced investors in a collaborative setting.
What you will do
- Contribute to every phase of a transaction, from sourcing opportunities and assessing them to carrying out diligence, closing deals, tracking portfolio companies, and planning exits
- Review opportunities through financial analysis, market research, and commercial evaluation
- Develop and update detailed financial models, including LBOs, valuation work, and materials for the investment committee
- Help drive transaction execution by coordinating diligence tasks, management discussions, financing steps, and external advisors
- Draft investment memoranda and communicate conclusions to senior investment professionals
- Partner with portfolio company leadership to monitor performance and identify initiatives that can improve value
- Build relationships with bankers, independent sponsors, co-investment partners, and other intermediaries to strengthen sourcing efforts
- Study industry trends, competitors, and broader market conditions to support new investment ideas
Candidate profile
The firm is seeking someone with 2 to 3 years of experience in investment banking or private equity, ideally with exposure to middle-market M&A transactions. Strong capability in financial modeling and valuation is important, along with familiarity with co-investments, independent sponsor deals, direct investments, or sponsor-backed acquisitions.
The right person should bring strong analytical and problem-solving ability, be comfortable managing several active transactions at once, and communicate confidently with management teams, advisors, and investors. An entrepreneurial approach and interest in taking on more responsibility in a lean team are also key.
Additional information
This is a highly entrepreneurial role in a collaborative environment, with meaningful responsibility and close exposure to investment decision-making. The position is based in the New York City Metropolitan Area.
