Job description
Role Overview
As an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland, you will be an essential part of the team ensuring the smooth operation of the prison. This dynamic role involves a mixture of desk duties and active tasks such as performing security searches, managing deliveries, overseeing visitor supervision, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV footage. Physical activities including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within the prison grounds are routine aspects of the position.
Key Requirements
Applicants must hold a valid full UK driving license as driving is a critical component of this job. No formal qualifications are needed, but strong communication skills, the ability to stay calm under pressure, and solid judgement are vital. Being a dependable team player with common sense is necessary to thrive in this fast-paced and varied role.
Work Schedule
The role involves shift work including weekends and nights to maintain continuous support and oversight within the facilities.

This unique position offers experience in prison operations with limited prisoner contact and can be a stepping stone to other prison careers including the possibility to transition to Prison Officer through a dedicated conversion scheme.
