Role Overview
Join the team at His Majesty’s Prison Isle of Wight as a Prison Support Officer. This essential role aids in the smooth daily functioning of a busy correctional facility. The position combines administrative duties with physically active tasks such as security checks, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, monitoring communications via CCTV and phone, and escorting vehicles within the prison grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct security and search activities at the prison entrance gate.
- Manage incoming and outgoing deliveries efficiently.
- Supervise visitors to ensure compliance with prison policies.
- Oversee telephone communications and monitor CCTV footage.
- Escort vehicles across the prison estate, involving walking and physical activity.
- Perform driving duties requiring a valid UK driving license.
Candidate Profile
No formal qualifications are required, but strong communication skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure are vital. The role requires good judgement, common sense, and the capability to work collaboratively within a team. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends, is necessary.

Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary of 29,432 per annum.
- 25 days annual leave initially, increasing to 30 days after ten years of service (pro-rated).
