Role Overview
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service at HMP Erlestoke as an Operational Support Grade (OSG), playing a vital role in the everyday operations of a busy prison facility. This multifaceted job involves a blend of administrative tasks and physically active duties such as conducting security checks, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, monitoring surveillance systems, and escorting vehicles within prison grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting security screenings and searches at the prison entrance.
- Handling deliveries and overseeing visitor supervision.
- Monitoring phone communications and CCTV to ensure safety.
- Performing physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles around the site.
- Participating in shift rotations that include weekends and nights to help maintain smooth operations.
Candidate Profile
No formal qualifications are required to begin in this role; however, strong communication skills, the ability to remain composed under pressure, good judgement, and teamwork are essential. Interaction with prisoners is limited but may occur depending on the facility’s needs.

- Starting salary of £30,491 per year.
