Job description
About the Role
Join His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service at HMP Isle of Wight as an Operational Support Grade (OSG), where you will contribute to the smooth and secure operation of a high-activity prison facility. This versatile position includes responsibilities such as conducting security searches at the entrance, managing incoming deliveries, supervising visitor activities, and monitoring phone communications and CCTV surveillance.
The role blends desk-based administrative tasks with physically active duties like lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within the prison premises. Driving responsibilities are vital, so candidates must possess a full, valid UK driving licence.
Candidate Profile
You don’t need prior formal qualifications but should be an effective communicator able to maintain composure in fast-paced and challenging environments. Good judgment, common sense, and teamwork will be crucial to your success in this role.
The role involves working shifts that may include nights and weekends to ensure continuous prison operations.
Career Impact
This position offers a unique chance to help protect the public and contribute positively to lives by supporting daily prison functions. While direct prisoner contact is limited compared to prison officers, occasional interaction is possible depending on the facility. Experience gained as an OSG provides valuable insight into prison operations and pathways to transition into prison officer roles, including an OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
