Job description
Role Overview
You will join HMP Isle of Wight as an Operational Support Grade, playing a crucial role in the smooth daily functioning of the prison. Your duties will be diverse, involving security checks, managing deliveries, visitor supervision, and monitoring communications and CCTV. The role blends administrative responsibilities with physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within the prison.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure the secure operation of the prison by conducting searches and security tasks at the gate
- Manage and oversee deliveries entering the prison grounds
- Supervise visitors to maintain safety and order
- Monitor phone calls and CCTV footage to support prison security
- Perform driving duties requiring a full and valid UK Driving Licence
- Engage in physical tasks including escorting vehicles throughout the prison premises
- Work various shifts, encompassing weekends and nights, to provide consistent operational support
Candidate Profile
You need not possess formal qualifications but should be an effective communicator with the ability to stay calm in pressured situations. Good judgment, sound common sense, and solid teamwork skills are essential for success.

Compensation and Perks
- Annual salary of 29,432
- Starting annual leave of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after ten years of service (pro-rata)
