About the Position

This role offers a remarkable chance for an experienced legal practitioner to join Legal Aid Queensland's Violence Prevention Advocacy team. The appointed Principal Lawyer will oversee the delivery of exceptional legal services supporting vulnerable and financially disadvantaged individuals in Queensland. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team comprising legal and administrative staff, including development planning, coaching, performance management, recruitment, and HR functions.
  • Oversee, train, and mentor team members as well as statewide LAQ personnel and external legal professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Monitor the team's performance and ensure adherence to all professional standards and organizational policies.
  • Drive and participate in the implementation of policy, procedural, and operational improvements.
  • Provide client representation in matters involving family law, domestic and family violence, counselling notes protection, child protection, and associated legal areas; including preparation, instructing counsel, and personal advocacy.
  • Enhance administrative workflows by refining file allocation, case management, and related system processes.
  • Design and deliver continuing professional development programs for LAQ staff and preferred suppliers; contribute to legal education initiatives within the community.
  • Conduct quality audits and file reviews of legal practitioners based on risk strategies and handle client complaints investigations.
  • Support the Family Law Services Directorate by contributing to policy submissions, law reform efforts, and legal service delivery improvements.
