Job description
Company Overview
Chronic Trace, Inc. builds a brain-injury screening platform that brings objective neurological assessment to the places where head injuries happen, including sidelines, playing fields, emergency departments, and training centers. The system runs on standard phones and tablets and guides different operators through checks of balance, eye movements, cognitive processing speed, and impact review. It then produces a combined index that can be compared with a person’s own baseline over time. The platform also turns results into practical risk guidance that helps with return-to-play, referral, and escalation decisions.
Privacy and traceability are built into the platform from the start. It supports anonymized subject tracking, row-level access controls, and tamper-evident audit trails, making it suitable for clinical, military, and research environments. The company’s broader mission is to build a standardized, portable evidence base for repetitive head trauma in groups that are often not well served by conventional concussion care.
Role Summary
The Principal Investigator will direct clinical and research programs that validate and broaden the use of Chronic Trace’s brain-injury screening platform. This remote, full-time position focuses on protocol design, ethics submissions, participant recruitment, and data collection across varied settings. The role also covers study analysis, interpretation of findings, and communication of outcomes through publications, presentations, and updates for key stakeholders.
The person in this role will work closely with product, engineering, and data science teams so that research findings shape product direction and evidence-based clinical guidance. In addition, the role includes developing partnerships with healthcare providers, athletic organizations, and research bodies while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and data privacy requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead clinical or applied research studies aimed at evaluating and extending the platform.
- Prepare study protocols and manage submissions for ethics and institutional review approval.
- Oversee recruitment of participants and the collection of data across multiple settings.
- Analyze research results, interpret outcomes, and convert findings into clear conclusions.
- Share study insights through manuscripts, presentations, reports, and stakeholder briefings.
- Partner with product, engineering, and data science teams to translate research into product improvements and clinical guidance.
- Build and maintain relationships with healthcare organizations, sports programs, and research institutions.
- Ensure studies and related activities follow regulatory, ethical, and data privacy standards.
Qualifications
- Proven background in designing and leading clinical or applied research in neurology, sports medicine, neuropsychology, emergency medicine, or a closely related area.
- Strong capability in study design, statistical analysis, and interpretation using standard analytical software and tools.
- Hands-on experience with human-subject research, including IRB procedures, informed consent, and ethical compliance.
- Ability to explain complex scientific and clinical findings in practical terms for product teams, clinicians, and non-specialist audiences.
- Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills, including manuscripts, grant proposals, study reports, and conference materials.
- Comfort working with digital health systems, mobile platforms, and data security practices; experience with clinical software or medical devices is a plus.
- Strong planning and coordination skills for managing multi-site or multi-stakeholder research in a remote setting.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and with diverse populations.
- Advanced degree such as MD, PhD, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field; board certification or clinical licensure is helpful but not mandatory.
