About the Role
The National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP) is a critical, nationally coordinated biosecurity initiative focused on detecting, containing, and eradicating invasive fire ants throughout Australia. The NFAEP is seeking an experienced Principal Program Advisor (AO7) to join the Office of the General Manager. This is a unique 6-month fixed-term temporary contract, with a possible extension until June 30, 2027, offering a chance to be at the heart of a high-profile national program. You will provide expert advice, manage intricate projects, and influence decisions vital to protecting Queensland's communities, environment, and economy.
What You'll Be Doing
- Prepare high-level briefs, submissions, correspondence, and executive advice.
- Coordinate information flow from various specialist teams including legal, communications, science, governance, and compliance.
- Conduct research, analyze emerging issues, risks, and operational challenges, and formulate responses.
- Provide support for the execution of strategic projects and initiatives across the program.
- Cultivate robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve program objectives.
- Assist senior leadership in navigating complex challenges and achieving program priorities.
What We're Looking For
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional written communication and briefing capabilities, with experience preparing executive, ministerial, or government correspondence.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex situations.
- Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and meeting stringent deadlines.
- Proficiency in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and building effective relationships.
- Previous experience working within government, policy development, program delivery, or complex operational settings is highly desirable.
Why Join Us?
- Make a significant contribution to a nationally important program dedicated to protecting Queensland from a serious invasive pest.
- Engage directly with senior leaders and key decision-makers.
- Become part of a supportive, high-achieving team that encourages initiative, innovation, and professional development.
- Gain valuable exposure to strategic projects, executive governance structures, and complex stakeholder dynamics.
- Benefit from free onsite parking.
