Job description
Overview
The Queensland Government is seeking Detention Youth Workers to help maintain safety and wellbeing for young people held in detention. The role supports the department’s wider mission of protecting Queensland communities, assisting victims, addressing the drivers of youth crime, and focusing on serious repeat offending.
What you will do
- Support young people in detention so they remain safe, cared for, and appropriately supervised.
- Promote positive conduct and encourage choices that help young people prepare for successful re-entry into the community.
- Help detainees understand centre rules and follow expected standards of behaviour.
- Lead activities that respect gender, cultural, and health-related needs.
- Be a trusted point of contact for young people who need support or someone to talk to.
- Carry out regular wellbeing checks throughout the day and night to confirm young people are safe.
- Engage young people in purposeful and constructive activities.
