About the Role

The Queensland Family & Child Commission is seeking a Principal Advisor to oversee finance, procurement, and contract management. This senior position is responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including the Financial Accountability Act 2009, government policies, and internal frameworks. The advisor will collaborate with leadership to provide expert financial advice and prepare the Commission's financial statements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead annual budget preparation and quarterly reviews, submitting financial and staffing data via Queensland Treasury's FRaMES tool.
  • Manage month-end financial reporting and forecasting, ensuring ledger reconciliations and accruals maintain system accuracy and integrity.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Advise management on budget development, forecasting, risks, cost pressures, and financial performance.
  • Develop and enforce financial management policies to comply with legislation and standards.
  • Provide authoritative guidance on procurement and contract management, ensuring adherence to policy and compliance guidelines.
  • Drive improvements in procurement, contract governance, systems, and maintain an updated contract register.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across the Commission, administering agencies, Queensland Treasury, and Queensland Audit Office.
  • Offer leadership and mentorship to finance and business services staff, promoting capability and uniform practices.
  • Promote a diverse, inclusive workplace culture that reflects community values and fosters respect, recognition, and reward for performance.

Additional Information

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in a similar role are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Successful applicants may be required to obtain a Working with Children clearance under the Risk Management and Screening Act 2000, with the Commission facilitating the process.
