Job description

Role overview

Pet Doctors Thorndon is seeking a full-time Practice Manager to join its Wellington clinic team. This position is ideal for an experienced veterinary nurse ready to step into broader leadership, or an established practice manager looking for a new challenge.

The role is highly practical and combines people leadership with continued clinical nursing support. You will work alongside the Lead Vet, veterinarians, and nurses in a well-established small animal clinic located close to Wellington train station.

The environment suits someone who works well in a team, helps build a positive workplace culture, and enjoys supporting the growth of others. Ongoing development, support from the Regional Manager, and access to a wider network of Practice Managers will be available.

Key duties

  • Ensure the clinic runs efficiently on a daily basis.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as rostering, inventory control, and facilities coordination.
  • Run team meetings and strengthen communication across the clinic.
  • Coach, develop, and support the nursing team, including performance guidance and mentoring.
  • Organise training initiatives and support health, safety, and wellbeing activities.
  • Partner with management to meet financial and operational targets.
  • Remain actively involved in veterinary nursing in a modern clinic offering medical and surgical care, radiology including dental imaging, and ultrasound.
  • Assist at reception and with other clinic tasks when required.

What you should bring

You should have strong attention to detail, solid clinical knowledge, and the ability to work confidently on your own while still contributing effectively to a wider team. A genuine commitment to team culture, development, and patient care is important, along with experience in small animal veterinary nursing.

Benefits and support

  • Join a connected network of veterinary professionals.
  • Access wellbeing assistance through an Employee Assistance Program provided by Sonder.
  • Receive additional paid parental leave and support when returning to work.
  • Enjoy staff discounts and benefits, including Fitness Passport.
  • Be recognised through programs that celebrate achievements.
  • Health insurance becomes available after the qualifying period.
  • Work in a supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Grow through ongoing leadership development opportunities.

Additional information

This is a hands-on leadership position where your contribution will directly affect both the team and the patients. The clinic values teamwork, growth, and high-quality care.
