Role Overview
The Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) together with NYU Abu Dhabi's Division of Engineering is inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate position. This opportunity involves undertaking advanced geomechanical modeling research, especially relating to energy applications such as hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration, under the guidance of Professor Mostafa Mobasher. The appointee will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams within SHORES.
Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced research on coupled fracture and damage processes in geomechanical materials subjected to diverse multiphysical loads including hydraulic, thermal, and chemical stimuli.
- Develop and implement innovative theoretical and numerical models to simulate geomechanical phenomena.
- Calibrate and validate constitutive models using experimental physical data.
Qualifications and Preferences
Applicants must hold a PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering and be within five years of completing their doctorate. Proven experience in computational mechanics and geomechanics is expected.
- Preferred backgrounds include expertise in geomechanical system modeling.
- Experience with hydraulic fracturing and carbon capture simulations.
- Familiarity with multiphysics modeling within solid mechanics frameworks.
- Expertise in nonlinear material behavior and fracture mechanics.
- Knowledge of machine learning applications in solid mechanics.
- Development and integration of numerical methods pertinent to solid mechanics.
- Skills in digital rock technology including imaging and analytical methods.
- Experience performing high-pressure and high-temperature triaxial testing.
- Background in experimental rock mechanics.
Employment Terms and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary package complemented by medical insurance, housing allowance, annual travel home leave, education subsidies for children, among other benefits.
Application Process
Applications require submission of a cover letter, CV with publication list, a research statement, academic transcripts, and contact details for at least two referees, all in PDF format.
