Policy and Research Officer

About the Role and Organization

The Policy and Research Officer will play a key role in supporting Queensland's initiatives against sexual violence through administrative and research assistance within the Prosecution Review Unit of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). This temporary opportunity, lasting three years, involves collaboration with legal and administrative teams to produce detailed responses, reports, and submissions for various oversight bodies.

The ODPP is an essential entity in Queensland's justice framework, representing the State in criminal prosecutions across multiple courts including the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, and District Court, handling complex and sensitive legal issues with utmost professionalism.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support Queensland’s efforts in responding to sexual violence by contributing meaningful research and administrative support.
• Assist the Prosecution Review Unit in managing day-to-day administration to ensure compliance with policies and audit procedures.
• Collaborate with legal staff and the Principal Policy Officer to prepare informative responses to enquiries from the Office of the Victims Commissioner.
• Conduct research, perform data collection, and analyze statistics to support legal case reviews and reporting requirements.
• Compile and report statistical data related to the ODPP’s activities.
• Maintain precise records of correspondence, reports, and related documentation.
• Work closely with professionals to deliver high-quality documentation and submissions.

Required Skills and Attributes

• Proven expertise in gathering, analyzing, and presenting statistical data clearly.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with Power BI for data visualization.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
• Capability to juggle multiple priorities efficiently and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting.
• Adeptness to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Trustworthy handling of confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
• Understanding of the ODPP's function in the criminal justice system and sensitivity to the needs of crime victims.

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term position lasting three years. The application period closes on Wednesday, 19th August 2026, and applications will remain valid for 12 months. There are no mandatory qualifications for this role.
