Job description
Overview
We are seeking Police Staff Investigators to join our team in Worcester, Worcestershire. This temporary role offers flexible working hours within office timeframes, with options for full-time, part-time, or compressed schedules. The position reports directly to a Detective Sergeant and requires active involvement in diverse investigative and evidence-gathering duties related to criminal offences.
Key Duties
- Conduct thorough investigations into criminal offences, using designated Investigating Officer powers.
- Interview victims and witnesses, recording their evidence through statements or Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) interviews, supplemented by collecting medical and forensic data as needed.
- Serve as liaison for victims and witnesses, supporting them through the justice system and providing timely updates on the progress of investigations.
- Formally interview suspects adhering to PACE and other relevant legislation.
- Secure and preserve evidence utilizing technical tools such as digital cameras, audio-video recorders, CCTV equipment, police intelligence and property management systems, and file preparation software.
- Attend crime scenes to protect, secure, and maximize forensic evidence opportunities.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive evidential files to the Crown Prosecution Service, maintaining strict standards for quality, timeliness, disclosure, and evidentiary integrity, and present evidence in court hearings when required.
- Coordinate with colleagues, other police forces, external agencies, and the community to support evidence gathering and offender identification.
- Identify and utilize criminal intelligence for crime prevention and detection, submitting intelligence reports as required.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by senior officers, including seizures, house-to-house inquiries, media appeals, and property investigations.
- Exercise lawful designated powers of investigation responsibly and professionally as mandated by the Police Reform Act 2002.
Experience and Qualifications
- Essential: Previous detective experience at PIP Level 2 or equivalent.
- Proven extensive experience in serious or complex crime investigation roles at a comparable level.
- Desirable: Completion of a Police Intelligence Operatives Course.
Working Conditions
- Location: Worcester, with hybrid working options available.
- Schedule: Office hours Monday to Friday, flexible between 08:00 and 18:00.
- Contract: Temporary ongoing for 12 months.
- Hourly pay rate: £18 (PAYE) or £22.65 (Umbrella).
