Planner / Senior Planner

About the Role

We are seeking a Planner or Senior Planner to join our close-knit team in one of our New Zealand offices including Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch. You'll collaborate with a team of planning professionals working on diverse projects for major clients such as Watercare, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, Wellington City Council, Tiaki Wai, Christchurch City Council, Transpower, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Ministry of Education, renewable energy providers, and industrial organizations. While our main offices are in key cities, we are open to applicants from other regions across Aotearoa New Zealand.

In this role, you will utilize your planning expertise and collaborative approach to deliver high-standard planning advice and drive meaningful project outcomes. Whether advancing your career or stepping into a senior position, you will contribute to multifaceted projects, nurture client relationships, and impact community-shaping initiatives nationwide.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical planning knowledge and advice across various sectors including local government, transport, water infrastructure, energy, and community projects.
• Engage collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams comprising transport specialists, landscape architects, urban designers, environmental consultants, and engineers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, mana whenua, stakeholders, and the public to ensure project success.
• Support and contribute to the professional development of colleagues and foster a positive team environment.

Candidate Profile

• Hold a degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related discipline, with NZPI membership or progressing toward membership in the case of senior planners.
• Possess 4+ years of relevant experience for Planner roles and 7+ years for Senior Planner roles, focusing on urban and environmental planning.
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Resource Management Act (RMA), including experience in statutory and strategic planning and regional consenting processes.
• Exhibit excellent communication and written skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Show a client-oriented mindset coupled with commercial awareness.
• Prior consultancy experience is favorable, especially knowledge of the water, transport, energy sectors, or work with industrial and government clients.
