About the Role and Team
The North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital offer comprehensive healthcare services in Tasmania's North West region. The pharmacy team collaborates integrally with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to provide excellent, patient-focused medication care. Position Overview
Pharmacy Technicians in the Statewide Hospital Pharmacy undertake rotational duties including dispensing medications, supplying wards, compounding medicines, managing PBS claims, overseeing inventory, and handling drug distribution. The team emphasizes creating a caring, respectful, and positive work atmosphere.
This opening includes multiple full-time and part-time permanent and fixed-term day roles. Staff are expected to serve at both the Mersey Community Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital sites.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Relevant prior experience in pharmacy, ideally within a hospital environment.
- Possession of or active enrollment in Certificate III or IV qualifications in Hospital and Health Services Pharmacy Support or similar, such as Certificate III in Community Pharmacy.

Appointment Details
- Permanent day work position offering up to 76 hours per fortnight; start date as soon as possible.
- Fixed-term full and part-time day work positions available from 11 October 2026 to 20 March 2027 potentially up to 76 hours per fortnight. Actual work hours are negotiable.
- This recruitment process may be used to fill similar positions, including casual vacancies, within a 12-month period after publication.
Salary and Benefits
The salary ranges from $76,849 to $82,996 per annum pro rata, with an additional 12% employer superannuation. This salary is aligned with the Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
Additional salary packaging benefits include:
- Ability to salary package living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 for meal entertainment per FBT year.

Eligibility Criteria
- Must possess or be currently enrolled in Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance (Hospital and Community Health Pharmacy Assistance) or Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support from an accredited institution.
- Alternatively, hold or be enrolled in an Associate Diploma or equivalent qualification relevant to pharmacy technician work.
- Additional qualifications or relevant experience for the Pharmacy Technician role are desirable.
