Overview
We seek a commercially driven and entrepreneurial Petrochemical Trader to aid in expanding our client's petrochemical trading and marketing ventures. This role focuses on products like Phenol, Acetone, Butadiene (BD), and related chemical commodities. Ideal candidates have significant commercial experience and a desire to deepen knowledge in global trading, market development, and physical commodity logistics. Partnering closely with seasoned traders, originators, and operational experts, the trader will contribute to business growth, strengthen customer ties, and enhance key product lines. This position also provides a clear advancement path toward greater commercial leadership and increased trading duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive growth and development of assigned petrochemical portfolios by spotting new commercial prospects and analyzing market dynamics.
- Conduct market research and upkeep commercial intelligence systems including supply-demand evaluations, price analyses, and competitor monitoring.
- Establish and nurture relationships with producers, traders, distributors, and end-users both regionally and internationally.
- Assist in recognizing, negotiating, and executing both spot and term trading deals under senior team supervision.
- Support origination by cultivating new client accounts and expanding existing partnerships.
- Collaborate with trading, operations, and logistics departments to ensure smooth transaction execution.
- Contribute to trade performance reviews by tracking transaction profitability and preparing commercial reports for senior management.
- Work with risk management teams to observe market exposure and gain experience in price risk management and hedging strategies.
- Coordinate with other petrochemical and energy trading teams to exchange market insights, identify collaboration opportunities, and leverage cross-product synergies.
- Stay informed on regional market developments, regulatory adjustments, and industry trends influencing trading activities.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 to 4 years experience in commercial, marketing, trading, or business development roles within the petrochemical, chemical, or commodity trading sectors.
- Experience with products such as Phenol, Acetone, Butadiene (BD), Aromatics, Olefins, Solvents, or related petrochemicals is beneficial.
- Comprehensive knowledge of physical commodity trading workflows and chemical logistics including ISO tanks, drums, bulk shipments, and packaged cargo.
- Established industry network encompassing producers, traders, distributors, and end-users in the petrochemical supply chain.
- Strong commercial insight with capability to spot, nurture, and implement business opportunities.
- Keen interest in commodity trading, market expansion, and strategic commercial planning, aiming for increased responsibilities over time.
- Analytical mindset with precision, able to interpret market data and convert insights into strategic commercial actions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, effective across diverse cultures and regions.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and flexible in a rapidly evolving trading atmosphere.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Fluency in English is required; additional Asian languages will be considered advantageous.
