Role Overview
This full-time onsite role is based at Solomon, Fortescue’s mine in Perth, Western Australia, Australia, on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples. The roster is 8 days on, 6 days off, 7 nights on, 7 nights off, on a FIFO basis from Perth.
The Permit Officer plays a key part in keeping permitting coverage safe and reliable across Solomon operations. The position manages isolation, tagging, and permit requirements for the process plant in day-to-day operations as well as during shutdowns. It also supports the creation of permitting and Specific Isolation Requirement (SIR) packages for major and modular shutdowns at Kings Valley, Firetail, Solomon Stockyards, and the Queens Valley Crushing Hub. Fortescue will provide training in isolations and permit issuing for the right person.
Responsibilities
- Prepare scoping details, job packs, and isolation statements for HV, LV, and mechanical work orders linked to fixed plant shutdown and breakdown work.
- Support shutdown execution by ensuring permitting and isolation coverage is effective across Kings Valley and Firetail.
- Make sure isolations and permits are carried out to a high safety standard while limiting disruption to production.
- Carry out daily inspections of work areas to confirm that the required isolations are correctly installed and operating as intended.
- Create and issue permits and isolations for breakdown and shutdown activities.
- Review and audit permits and isolations for compliance and quality.
- Keep the permit-to-work system/database up to date.
- Help prepare, plan, and put in place permitting and isolation arrangements before work starts.
Requirements
- A current Western Australia electrical licence with high-voltage experience.
- Prior mining experience in a FIFO setting is essential.
- Experience in permits and isolations is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Computer literacy and the ability to work across multiple systems; training will be provided.
- Proven stakeholder management and engagement skills.
- Ability to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams and electrical drawings is preferred.
