Job description
Position Overview
The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is hiring a permanent cleaner for Assumption College School in Brantford. This is a full-year role with 40 hours per week at 1.0 FTE. The shift runs mid-day from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. The start date will be decided later.

The Board serves more than 13,000 students across Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk, Brantford, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. It employs about 2,100 full-time and part-time staff and operates 29 elementary schools, 3 secondary schools, a multi-site alternative education school, and 3 administrative offices. What You Will Do
- Carry out a broad range of cleaning and janitorial tasks across the school.
- Help maintain the grounds by watching for litter such as paper or glass, and assist with gardens and flower beds.
- Look out for and report anything unsafe, suspicious, or potentially harmful on school property.
- Support building security by checking, closing, and locking doors and windows, switching lights on or off, and activating the security system at the end of the shift.
- Use cleaning chemicals safely and in line with WHMIS and Material Safety Data Sheet instructions, including checking MSDS information through computer systems when needed.
- Follow safe work methods, wear and maintain the required protective equipment, and complete other duties assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance, Principal, or designate.
Qualifications
- You should have knowledge and hands-on experience with cleaning methods and techniques, usually gained through at least one year of training and experience in commercial or institutional cleaning.
- An Ontario Secondary School Diploma, including technical subjects, is preferred.
- You must be able to read and write, including preparing supply requests, recording incident reports, reading WHMIS and safety documents, and handling basic arithmetic such as proportions.
- You need a practical understanding of safety rules and procedures, including WHMIS, personal protective equipment, lifting methods, material handling, and working from ladders and scaffolding.
- You should know how to operate common cleaning equipment safely, such as vacuum cleaners and wet/dry shop vacuums, and be comfortable using building security systems.
- You need basic computer skills, including internet and email use.
- You must be able to work independently with little supervision and also cooperate well in a team setting.
- Subject to the Board’s duty to accommodate, you should be physically able to perform the job’s required tasks, including pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying moderate loads, and handling items such as water pails and garbage bags.
