About the Role

This part-time Educational Assistant position, operating at 0.5 full-time equivalent for 17.5 hours per week across a 10-month period, is a permanent role starting September 2, 2026. The role is based at St. Leo School under the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board in Brantford, Ontario.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary educational assistant program (typically one year) or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least one year of experience working with children is required.
  • Additional relevant training will be considered an advantage.
  • Candidates must be physically capable and willing to assist with tasks such as toileting and lifting.
  • A compassionate and supportive attitude toward students is essential.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion with sensitive information is expected.
  • Ability to work autonomously while being a collaborative team member.
  • Basic proficiency in computer software applications is necessary.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of prescribed programs for special needs students in individual and group settings.
  • Facilitate students' transition from home to school environments.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between students and teachers.
  • Attend meetings as needed, recording and managing appropriate notes.
  • Assist in preparing educational materials such as crafts, charts, and teaching aids under teacher supervision.
  • Participate in executing Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for special needs students.
  • Observe and document student behavior, academic progress, motor skills, and social development, maintaining logs and reports.
  • Provide behavior management support including conflict resolution, crisis interventions, and calming strategies.
  • Support students with feeding, restroom assistance including toileting, and changing soiled clothing when necessary.
  • Enforce classroom routines and rules consistently.
  • Support planning and management of field trips tailored for special needs students.
  • Contribute to general school duties such as student supervision.
  • Offer practical assistance in classroom activities, including preparing materials, copying, cleaning up, and setting up equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by school administration.
