Job description

Role overview

Okta is hiring a People Operations Specialist to support its global employee lifecycle operations from Bengaluru. The role sits at the intersection of HR operations, systems administration, compliance, and employee support. You will be responsible for safeguarding employee data accuracy, coordinating background verification activities, and helping deliver a smooth experience from hiring through offboarding.

This position is suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment and can balance precision, compliance, and service orientation while collaborating with global stakeholders.

What you will do

  • Maintain accurate employee records across the full lifecycle in Workday.
  • Handle complex global HR data updates such as transfers, promotions, compensation changes, and exits.
  • Run mass data uploads through Workday EIBs and ensure high data quality.
  • Own end-to-end background verification activities by working with external vendors, initiating checks, monitoring progress, reviewing outcomes, and escalating discrepancies when needed.
  • Support onboarding documentation and compliant offboarding processes.
  • Respond to HR service tickets in ServiceNow while meeting service-level expectations.
  • Work closely with employees, HR business partners, and external partners to keep workflows moving efficiently.

What success looks like

  • Employee data remains highly accurate, with a target of more than 99% correctness for entries and uploads in Workday.
  • All active personnel files have verified background check clearance within required timelines.
  • HR tickets and onboarding setup tasks are completed within agreed turnaround times.
  • Background verification cycle time is reduced through stronger internal coordination and vendor efficiency.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in People Operations or HR Operations with strong exposure to employee lifecycle processes.
  • Practical experience with Workday Core HCM, including EIB execution.
  • Hands-on use of ServiceNow for HR case or ticket management.
  • Experience handling high-volume background verification processes and managing vendor relationships.
  • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and attention to data privacy.
  • Awareness of GDPR and CCPA is considered a strong advantage.
  • Ability to support a PST schedule and collaborate with U.S.-based teams.
