Pediatric Neurologist/Epileptologist

Position Overview

Shared Health and the University of Manitoba are seeking a Pediatric Neurologist/Epileptologist to begin on January 1, 2026, or shortly after. This is an on-site position based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Role Summary

The role is divided between clinical practice and academic duties. Around 70% of the position focuses on diagnosing and managing diseases, prescribing therapies, arranging laboratory and diagnostic investigations, and consulting with other physicians as needed. The remaining 30% involves academic appointment responsibilities, with eligibility for appointment as an Assistant Professor and as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. All duties are to be carried out in English.

Clinical Scope

The Pediatric Neurology service sees children with a broad range of neurological conditions, including seizure disorders and epilepsies, stroke, brain tumors, ataxia, headaches, neuromuscular conditions, metabolic and degenerative disorders, infectious diseases, developmental malformations, and developmental delay. The section works closely with Pediatric Neurosurgery and includes six full-time academic pediatric neurologists, one community pediatric neurologist, three pediatric neurology nurse clinicians, and five EEG technologists. The EEG laboratory performs routine EEGs, ambulatory EEGs, and video EEG monitoring for both inpatients and outpatients. Children’s Hospital at Health Sciences Centre also operates a 2-bed pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine degree with specialization in Pediatrics, along with completion of a neonatal neurology fellowship and a Canadian pediatric epilepsy fellowship. Eligibility for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba, is required. Prior experience is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation follows a mixed model, with most income generated through fee-for-service billing and is approximately $340,000. Specialty physicians may be considered for a recruitment incentive.
