Job description

About Novita

Novita supports people of all abilities by providing therapy, assistive technology, community programs and community living services across South Australia. The organisation offers a workplace that balances structure with room to grow, helping people develop their careers in an environment that is both supportive and personal.

At Novita, leaders encourage autonomy while staying engaged and respectful of individual goals. The wider range of services also creates opportunities for career development and new challenges.

This is a permanent full-time position based in Adelaide Metro.

Role overview

The Payroll Officer will be responsible for accurate, end-to-end fortnightly payroll processing for around 1,200 employees across multiple awards. The position requires strong compliance knowledge, dependable support for staff and managers, and a proactive approach to improving payroll systems, processes and reporting.

Key responsibilities

  • Run the full payroll cycle for wages, salaries and employee entitlements.
  • Apply and interpret EA, SCHADS and Retail Awards to keep payroll compliant.
  • Handle leave entries, superannuation and payroll reconciliations.
  • Respond to payroll questions from employees and managers with accurate and timely advice.
  • Prepare payroll reports, workforce data analysis and related insights.
  • Contribute to payroll system enhancements, including work within ELMO.
  • Process complex payments such as terminations, WorkCover, long service leave and Portable LSL.
  • Keep payroll records accurate and ensure costs are allocated correctly.

Skills and experience required

  • Proven background in end-to-end payroll within a complex organisation.
  • Working knowledge of disability, aged care or health-related environments is an advantage.
  • Practical experience using ELMO payroll systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn bespoke plugin tools such as rostering systems.
  • Strong understanding of awards, enterprise agreements and payroll legislation.
  • Experience handling payroll queries and providing customer-oriented support.
  • Advanced Excel capability, along with data analysis and payroll reporting skills.
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and reconciliation ability.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities effectively.

Qualifications and checks

A tertiary qualification in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources or a related field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience in a similar payroll position. Additional certification in payroll or HR systems is desirable.

A current NDIS Worker Check and Working with Children Check are required. If these are not already held, Novita will advise the successful applicant on how to obtain them before commencement.

Benefits

  • Total remuneration includes base pay, annual leave loading and 12% superannuation.
  • Access to salary packaging of up to $15,900, which can increase take-home pay.
  • Additional salary packaging options are available for meal and entertainment expenses, accommodation and venue hire, private novated leasing and extra superannuation contributions.
  • You will join a collaborative, values-driven team that supports flexibility, development and meaningful impact.

Additional information

Interviews may begin as applications are received, so the role could be filled before the advertised closing date. Novita may close the recruitment process early if a suitable applicant is identified.

Novita is committed to diversity and inclusion and gives fair consideration to all suitably qualified applicants. People with disability and applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.

Shortlisted candidates will need to complete background checks before employment is confirmed.
