Job description
About the Role
Smart Energy is seeking a Payroll & Commissions Specialist to support its Byron Bay head office. This position goes well beyond routine payroll processing and sits at the intersection of remuneration strategy, data analysis, systems, and process improvement.
The business has expanded from a small Byron Bay startup into a nationwide home electrification company with more than 15 offices, 320+ employees, and support from Rinnai Australia. The role is designed for someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving complex problems, and improving how payroll and commission programs operate at scale.
Key Focus Areas
In this role, you will help ensure payroll, incentive, and commission outcomes are correct, consistent, and aligned with business performance. You will work closely with the Head of Remuneration, Finance, IT, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to manage calculations, support system maintenance, and contribute to ongoing improvements in remuneration processes.
Commission & Incentive Work
- Pull operational data, interpret it, and convert it into precise commission and incentive payments.
- Develop, maintain, and refine commission calculation models so they remain accurate and fit for purpose.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to improve commission structures and related processes over time.
Systems & Technical Collaboration
- Work with IT, analysts, and developers to update, transition, and support the existing commission platform.
- Assist the Head of Remuneration in keeping database records accurate and current.
- Use ERP and database tools to support reporting, calculations, and process optimisation.
Payroll Operations
- Support payroll activities across weekly, fortnightly, and monthly pay cycles.
- Complete payroll reconciliations and assist the accounting team when needed.
- Help ensure payroll activity remains compliant with relevant legislation, including wage and payroll tax obligations.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate brings strong payroll or remuneration experience, a solid grasp of commission administration, and the confidence to handle detailed data work. You should be comfortable working across systems, collaborating with multiple teams, and spotting opportunities to make processes more efficient.
What’s on Offer
This position offers a competitive base salary, a specialised role with genuine scope to grow and make an impact, and the chance to work in a collaborative team environment alongside experienced finance and remuneration professionals.
