Role Summary
As a Patient Transporter, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding service by assisting patients in their movement throughout the hospital. Acting as either the initial or final point of contact, you will have the unique opportunity to positively impact each patient's experience. Engaging conversations with patients help ease their concerns, providing a human touch beyond clinical interactions. This position requires familiarity with the hospital layout, enhancing patient and visitor interactions.
Working Hours
The shift for this role is from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients via wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, including those with oxygen tanks, IV pumps, drips, and specialized medical equipment.
- Assist patients with transfers between beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Escort patients to the hospital lobby during discharge procedures.
- Ensure oxygen tanks are properly filled and functioning before transport.
- Provide assistance and directions to patients and visitors.
- Confirm patient identification and transportation method by cross-verifying pager, wristbands, and medical charts following standard precautions.
- Clean and maintain transport equipment.
- Conduct environmental and safety inspections, report any equipment malfunctions, and document findings accordingly.
- Move and deliver medical equipment and linen carts within hospital premises.
- Complete a comprehensive three-month on-the-job training covering multiple hospital locations, special procedures, emergency protocols, and safe patient handling techniques.
Qualifications and Preferences
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
Physical Demands
- Must possess full range of motion including manual dexterity and coordination for patient handling.
- Normal or corrected vision and hearing capabilities are required.
- Exposure to communicable diseases is expected and must be managed responsibly.
- Capability to move or transport patients weighing 100 pounds or more.
- Physical effort required exceeds typical Light Work classifications.
Safety and Compliance
- Consistently adhere to standard precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
