About the Role
Wellstar Health System is seeking a Patient Meal Services Liaison in LaGrange, Georgia. In this position, you will support patients by helping them select meals that fit their dietary restrictions, then delivering those meals in a courteous, efficient, and professional way. The role also includes confirming the right tray reaches the right patient using two patient identifiers, guiding patients through the meal-ordering process, acting as a patient advocate, and taking on other assigned duties.

Core Responsibilities
- Support patient and team safety in line with HACCP principles and County Health Department guidelines.
- Practice proper hand hygiene, glove use, and infection prevention standards, including when entering and leaving patient rooms.
- Keep work areas clean, orderly, and free from spills or trip hazards.
- Deliver meal trays while confirming patient identity with two identifiers.
- Check that menu choices match diet orders and seek clarification from leadership or a clinical dietitian when needed.
- Escalate concerns related to food allergies, texture consistency, adverse reactions, or outside food intake.
- Record food and equipment temperatures as required and act quickly when readings fall outside acceptable ranges.
- Store food and supplies with proper labeling, dating, and rotation practices.
- Use equipment safely and report any unsafe condition, such as damaged electrical cords.
- Handle IT equipment properly and safeguard confidential information, including passwords.
- Follow the assigned schedule, including weekends and holidays, and report to the workstation before the shift task begins.
- Set up, maintain, and break down the workstation according to area needs.
- Carry out written and verbal instructions accurately and complete checklists and forms.
- Operate and care for equipment based on manufacturer and site-specific guidance.
- Remain flexible and support coworkers across the department when needed.
- Help patients choose meals by considering preferences, allergies, and other dietary details.
- Enter meal selections accurately and promptly into nutrition services software.
- Check patient satisfaction and complete internal satisfaction surveys.
- Deliver meals that respect cultural, spiritual, ethnic, and age-related needs.
- Obtain extra items for trays when appropriate and approved by the diet order; request approval for non-compliant requests.
- Deliver meals throughout the day, collect dirty trays from rooms, and assist with soiled tray carts.
- Prepare and deliver snacks to units across the hospital.
- Handle departmental support tasks such as dish room work, silverware rolling, floor stock replenishment, supply requisitions, break room cleaning, and general housekeeping.
- Resolve customer service issues when possible and escalate concerns to a supervisor when recovery is needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance, including neat and clean uniforms, clothing, and shoes.
- Work collaboratively with team members and leadership to support department and hospital goals.
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and with cultural awareness.
- Maintain proficiency in the nutrition service software used for patient meal services.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and follow all Wellstar policies, work standards, and code of conduct.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Healthcare food service experience is preferred.
- Customer service experience is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Basic understanding of modified diets.
- Good phone communication skills for handling internal and external customer interactions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written.
- Positive attitude when interacting with patients and customers.
- All required certifications must be obtained at hire unless stated otherwise.
