Job Overview
We are seeking a Part-Time Social Media Editor to become a key member of the California Post's newsroom team. The ideal candidate will have a strong connection to the social media landscape, expertise in video editing, fluency in current digital trends, and the ability to craft engaging content that resonates with a diverse, news-focused audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prepare, and publish content to California Post's social media channels including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, Threads, and others.
- Produce short-form vertical videos, memes, graphics, and other interactive posts aimed at boosting user engagement.
- Record, edit, and generate video content from live events, interviews, and internal programs adhering to platform-specific guidelines for social media.
- Develop and implement timely, newsworthy, and trending content ideas to maintain audience interest.
- Interact with followers across all California Post social platforms by managing comments and nurturing meaningful conversations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years’ experience managing social media for a news-oriented organization.
- Proven track record in multimedia content creation and digital social media publishing.
- Skilled in video and image editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, and Canva, supported by an impressive creative portfolio.
- Excellent editorial judgment with strong writing and copy-editing capabilities.
- Up-to-date understanding of social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms, with an ability to adapt strategies for increased engagement.
- Experience managing significant social media accounts with documented success in audience growth and participation.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-moving newsroom with excellent multitasking and prioritization under pressure.
- A passion for news, culture, and storytelling, combined with creativity to translate these themes into dynamic social content.
Additional Information
This position operates on weekend shifts: Saturdays and Sundays from 6 AM to 2 PM PST. It is open to remote candidates residing in California or New York. Employment and payroll functions are conducted through a third-party vendor supporting The New York Post.
