Capital Region Food & Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable (CRFAIR) is a nonprofit dedicated to fostering a network of organizations that promote healthy, sustainable food systems in the Capital Region of British Columbia. These roles are part of the BC Work Experience Grant, supported by the Government of Canada and Province of British Columbia, targeting individuals eligible for income or disability assistance who face barriers to labor market participation.

Positions Available

There are three part-time positions focused on Communications & Engagement, each with unique responsibilities:

• Community Engagement Assistant
• Digital & Visual Storytelling Assistant
• Good Food Gathering Assistant

Community Engagement Assistant

This role involves assisting with the implementation of the Flavour Trails™ program and the Good Food Gathering event, including planning participation, managing event materials, public outreach, and supporting event setup and takedown. Flexibility and comfort with both virtual and face-to-face engagements are essential, with some weekend and early evening commitments. Physical demands include sitting during computer work, occasional standing for extended periods, and lifting event equipment up to 40 pounds. Sensory considerations include variable auditory, visual, and tactile stimuli in various indoor and outdoor settings.

Digital & Visual Storytelling Assistant

The responsibilities include content creation and management for CRFAIR's social media platforms, development of communications strategies, and promotion of food system initiatives through multimedia. Creativity in social media use, graphic design, photography, and video is valued. Depending on work arrangement, physical efforts vary from typical computer tasks to occasional outdoor activity. Sensory and environmental factors are similar to the Community Engagement role, adjusted for home office conditions if primarily remote.

Good Food Gathering Assistant

This assistant supports the yearly Good Food Gathering by aiding event planning, sponsorship coordination, setup and takedown, and post-event reporting. Candidates should be comfortable with public interaction and possess some graphic design skills. Physical and mental efforts mirror those of the Community Engagement Assistant, with occasional weekend or evening hours.

Additional Information

• Start between June and September 2026 until positions are filled
• Duration of 20 weeks, with 8 hours per week (160 total hours)
• Stipend of $300 biweekly, totaling $3,000 for the full period
• The work emphasizes equity, decolonization perspectives, and the promotion of just and sustainable food systems
• Flexible scheduling
• Opportunities for networking and mentorship with local farmers, food makers, and social impact organizations
• Physical and sensory demands vary with role and event participation, involving both indoor and outdoor environments

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet one or more of the following and be legally eligible to work in British Columbia:

• Recipients or qualified recipients of income or disability assistance under several BC or federal acts
• Hardship Assistance or benefits under the Person with Persistent Multiple Barriers to Employment program
• Assistance qualification from Treaty First Nations or First Nation Administrating Authorities
• Indigenous individuals receiving equivalent federal assistance for work on Indigenous reserves or Treaty Lands
• Previous work experience opportunity grant recipients may apply under certain conditions

The stipend is exempt from BC income eligibility calculations and will not affect assistance payments. Income from this program must be reported for monitoring.
