Position Overview
This opening is for a regular part-time Clerk IV in the Laboratory - Pathology department working 0.3 FTE during daytime hours. The position involves various clerical duties to support pathology staff and lab functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform administrative office tasks assigned by Pathologists and Lab Manager, including transcribing surgical, cytology, and autopsy pathology reports.
- Transcribe gross dictations for Pathology Assistants, Histology Technologists, and Pathologists.
- Manage the distribution of slides, blocks, and reports through both physical means and digital systems such as the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Pathology Tracking system.
- Organize, sort, and scan laboratory reports and consults into the LIS.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new team members.
- Support document creation and generate statistical reports as required.
- Provide assistance and guidance to auxiliary staff.
- Help maintain departmental scheduling and cover clerical tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Medical Transcription Certificate along with a minimum of one year experience specifically in pathology transcription.
- Strong editing and proofreading capabilities.
- Typing proficiency with at least 65 words per minute.
- Experience transcribing College of American Pathologists Synoptic Reports is essential.
- Hospital transcription background will be considered a strong asset.
- Ability to handle different dialects and accents effectively during transcription.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capacity to work independently in a demanding and distraction-prone environment.
- Collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Familiarity with Lanier Dictation, Meditech Client Server, Microsoft Office, and Omnitech Document Control Program is advantageous.
- Ability to effectively prioritize, multitask, and maintain reliability in attendance and punctuality.
- At least two years of general office experience.
