Job description
Role Overview
The Metropole Hotel Cork is looking for a part-time Food & Beverage Assistant to support the bar and restaurant team at the MacCurtain Street property in Cork. This is a guest-facing position suited to someone who enjoys working closely with visitors, thrives in a busy atmosphere, and contributes positively within a close-knit team.
Key Duties
- Arrive on time and in the correct uniform for each shift.
- Keep the working area and still room orderly and clean.
- Lay tables according to the required setup.
- Help manage linen stock levels.
- Prepare mise-en-place for the next shift.
- Make sure service stations are ready, cleaned, and fully stocked.
- Prepare the work area for the following shift.
- Take orders, process bills, and complete end-of-shift cashing up.
- Work across the restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, or banqueting areas as needed.
- Serve food and beverages during functions in line with group standards.
- Keep the restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, and banqueting spaces clean at all times.
- Follow hygiene rules and food safety practices strictly.
- Check cash floats accurately and report any discrepancies.
- Dispense and serve drinks and food efficiently where required.
- Communicate the hotel’s services and facilities to guests when needed.
- Handle guest complaints professionally and escalate them to management.
- Make sure guest needs and expectations are met.
- Maintain high standards of personal grooming and hygiene.
- Act responsibly to protect the health and safety of yourself, colleagues, guests, and others on site.
- Participate in fire drills and follow all safety procedures.
- Report accidents or damage and take action where possible.
- Attend monthly department staff meetings.
- Take part in training sessions as directed by management.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.
- Keep fire doors closed and fire exits/routes clear at all times.
- Follow company policies relating to fire safety, health and safety, hygiene, food hygiene, customer care, and security.
- Read, understand, and comply with the responsibilities set out in the Health & Safety Statement.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will bring a warm and positive attitude, a genuine interest in guest care, and the ability to work well as part of a team. The employer also welcomes candidates who can use their own initiative when required. Previous experience is an advantage, but it is not mandatory.
