Headquartered in San Francisco and supported by renowned investors, Mercor invites applications for a part-time Biology & Biophysics Research Collaborator role. This contract position offers remote flexibility, with up to 20 work hours weekly and competitive remuneration reflecting the candidate's research experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Critically assess biology and biophysics research articles for scientific rigor, originality, and validity.
- Compose and refine complex biology and biophysics challenges aimed at training and assessing cutting-edge AI models.
- Analyze AI-generated outputs for tasks such as mechanistic predictions, experimental setups, and interpreting scientific literature.
- Detect and report mistakes typical of experienced PhD-level researchers, highlighting model shortcomings.
- Collaborate closely with a small program team and other senior contributors to advance project objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Authored first or co-first author publications in prestigious journals like Nature, Science, Cell, PNAS, eLife, NEJM, Nature Methods, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, or Nature Communications.
- Possess a PhD or have completed postdoctoral training at a top 20 global institution in life sciences or related STEM disciplines.
- Earned competitive fellowships such as HHMI (including EXROP, Hanna H. Gray, Investigator), NIH F31/F32/K99, NSF Graduate or Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, or distinguished awards like Damon Runyon, Helen Hay Whitney, Jane Coffin Childs, Searle, Pew, Sloan, Packard, Simons, or Fulbright.
- Have issued patents, founded or co-founded spin-out companies, or secured grants as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator.
- Currently active or recently engaged in research roles including PhD candidate, postdoctoral scholar, instructor, faculty member, principal scientist, or industrial researcher.
Engagement and Compensation
- Part-time commitment: engagement up to 20 hours per week.
- Hourly pay rate ranges from $80 to $110, corresponding to the candidate's expertise and seniority.
