Role Overview
Wigan & Leigh College is seeking a part-time Art & Design Lecturer to teach courses across BTEC Levels 1, 2, and 3. This permanent role offers a unique opportunity for an accomplished Art & Design educator to combine teaching with their own ongoing creative practice. The role involves delivering a broad curriculum that enhances students' technical abilities, creativity, and understanding of professional artistic practice. A background in Graphic Design, Textiles, or a related specialization is advantageous but not mandatory. The college values inclusive teaching and deep artistic knowledge.
Key Duties
- Educate students across BTEC Levels 1-3 in Art & Design, covering both technical skills and creative expression.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that foster practical skills and industry awareness.
- Evaluate student work through marking, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching approaches based on assessments.
- Ensure all assessed work complies with awarding body standards and maintains proper verification documentation.
- Serve as a Personal Tutor, guiding students through their coursework and supporting their progression.
- Forge links with creative industry professionals to integrate real-world experience into teaching.
- Participate in open days and contribute to department initiatives promoting the Art & Design program.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a degree in Art & Design or a closely related field.
- Possesses a formal teaching qualification.
- Proven experience positively impacting development of creative arts students.
- Specialist skills in Graphic Design, Textiles, or related areas are welcome but not required.
- Capability to confidently teach across multiple Art & Design subjects.
- Committed to inclusive education catering to diverse student abilities and backgrounds.
- An active passion for personal and student creative practices.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to contribute to a supportive team culture.
- Well-organized, maintaining rigorous standards for marking, verification, and administrative duties.
Essential Requirements
- A degree in Art & Design or comparable discipline.
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics at grade C or equivalent.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Successful applicants will undergo an enhanced DBS check, facilitated by the college.
