Job description

Role overview

The Department of Communities and Justice is hiring a proactive, committed Overseer to join the Community Projects Unit at Broken Hill Correctional Centre in Broken Hill, New South Wales. This is an ongoing full-time role working 5 days per week.

The position offers a salary of $94,456 per annum, along with incidental allowance, leave loading, and superannuation.

What you will do

In this role, you will lead, coach, instruct, and support inmates as part of a team so they can build practical work skills, improve their chances of securing employment after release, and contribute to the objectives of the service and business unit.

You will also direct team activity to maintain productivity, efficiency, commercial outcomes, workplace health and safety compliance, quality standards, and customer service expectations.

Training and development

Successful candidates will receive paid training to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice at an allocated Corrective Services Academy training facility.

Qualification requirements

  • Current Certificate III in Correctional Practice, or the ability to complete it within the required CSNSW timeframes.
  • Current NSW driver licence and willingness to drive a vehicle as part of the job.
  • Trade background at minimum Certificate III level in one of the following areas: carpentry, a building-related trade, horticulture, parks and wildlife, or ground maintenance-related trades.

  • Demonstrated post-trade experience.
  • Experience showing you can meet the key accountabilities and focus capabilities set out in the role description.
  • Willingness and ability to work across multiple trades when needed.
