OSH Officer - Risk and Contingency Management

Role overview

This position sits within the OSH function and reports to the Manager, OSH Monitoring and Performance. The role supports risk assessments, emergency evacuation exercises, and the administration of first aid kits, fire warden kits, and the responder lists for fire wardens and first aiders.

As a key member of the OSH team, the officer helps ensure the organisation is ready to respond appropriately to identified hazards and emergencies, protecting the safety and wellbeing of employees and visitors. The role also supports and guides leadership during risk assessment workshops by strengthening hazard awareness and risk control planning.

Key responsibilities

• Support and coordinate risk assessments across the organisation’s activities.
• Spot hazards and evaluate them so risks can be reduced early.
• Allocate risk actions, monitor progress, and push for timely closure of corrective measures and mitigations.
• Organise, coordinate, and review emergency response drills across facilities.
• Prepare clear reports that summarise drill outcomes and required improvements.
• Assist with incident investigations by examining OSH incidents, identifying root causes, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Track findings and action plans and follow up until closure is achieved.
• Help execute the OSH audit and inspection programme.
• Maintain compliance with internal OSH standards and relevant local regulatory requirements.
• Provide accurate and timely reporting on safety performance and current risk status.
• Record and escalate safety concerns, incidents, and hazards according to company procedures.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by OSH management to support safety outcomes.

Qualifications and experience

• At least 4 years of experience in a safety role within a high-risk industry.
• A NEBOSH certificate or an equivalent OSH qualification is mandatory.
• Hands-on experience with emergency response plans, contingency plans, first aid, or similar is required.
• Proven ability as a risk assessor or risk assessment facilitator is highly advantageous.
• Lead auditor training, such as RBAQSA, BARS, or ISO, is desirable.
• Experience gained in high-risk industries is expected.
• A university degree is desirable, although substantial OSH industry experience and training may also be considered.
• Previous experience as a first aider and/or fire warden is desirable.
