About the Role

Litton Andrews specializes in partnering with healthcare providers to identify and recruit skilled executives who spearhead operational efficiency and foster business advancement. We are currently seeking a seasoned, commercially astute Operations Director to oversee and elevate our national medical billing operations. This senior leadership position suits a professional with proven capabilities in healthcare revenue cycle management, Medicare and MBS billing, and private health insurance claims.

Reporting directly to the General Manager and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead approximately 45 team members distributed across various divisions and geographical locations, including offshore units. Your primary duties involve enhancing operational quality, compliance, scalability, and customer satisfaction while supporting ongoing growth, technological evolution, and integration of acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all medical billing operations spanning multiple teams, specialties, and sites.
  • Manage complete billing workflows from claims processing to reconciliation, collections, and reporting.
  • Drive consistency in service, streamline operations, and develop scalable delivery frameworks.
  • Supervise offshore teams to ensure high standards, accountability, and smooth integration.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators relating to productivity, quality, compliance, turnaround time, and customer results.
  • Enhance billing efficiency, improve claim acceptance rates, boost collections, and accelerate cash flow.
  • Implement rigorous reporting systems, quality assurance measures, and ongoing enhancement programs.
  • Detect and resolve process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and skill gaps.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Medicare, MBS billing guidelines, private insurer requirements, and patient billing regulations.
  • Strengthen controls to minimize billing errors, reduce claim denials, and prevent revenue loss.
  • Collaborate with compliance, technology, and product teams to enhance billing accuracy and mitigate risks.
  • Lead private health insurer claim processing, rejection management, and patient payment collections.
  • Improve management of outstanding debts and overall collection effectiveness.
  • Forge strong partnerships with payer organizations and key stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop leaders, supervisors, and operational staff to cultivate a high-performance culture focused on service excellence and accountability.
  • Guide workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and succession strategies.
  • Champion adoption and rollout of new technological platforms and workflow enhancements.
  • Work jointly with product and tech teams to identify automation possibilities and operational improvements.
  • Steer change management initiatives, promote user adoption, and drive continuous operational improvements.
  • Support strategic business planning, growth initiatives, and operational transformation projects.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive leadership experience in medical billing, healthcare revenue cycle management, claims processing, or medical payments operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian medical billing standards including Medicare, MBS billing, private health insurance claims, and patient billing processes.
  • Proven capability managing large teams in high-volume, process-oriented settings.
  • Demonstrated track record in establishing KPIs, performance frameworks, and effective operational reporting.
  • Experience with process re-engineering, operational excellence, and leading change.
  • Involvement in technology deployments and operational transformation efforts.
  • Strong business acumen with the capacity to balance compliance, service delivery, financial outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in healthcare technology, specialist practice management, or healthcare services companies is advantageous.

What We Offer

  • A senior leadership role with substantial influence throughout the organisation.
  • Opportunity to lead a sizable and expanding operations team.
  • Exposure to transformative technology and business growth projects.
  • Collaborative executive leadership environment.
  • A competitive salary package commensurate with experience.
