About the Role

Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland. With an annual salary of £30,491, you'll be an integral part of the daily operations within a busy prison setting. This multifaceted role combines desk-based activities with physical tasks such as escorting vehicles, supervising visitors, conducting security searches, and monitoring CCTV and phone communications.

Holding a full, valid UK driving licence is essential as driving duties form a core responsibility of this position.

Who You Are

You don't require formal qualifications but should have solid communication skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure. Good judgement, common sense, and teamwork are crucial to successfully supporting the smooth and safe functioning of the prison. The role involves working various shifts, including nights and weekends.

What You Will Do

• Support daily prison operations to ensure security and efficiency.
• Conduct security and gate searches, manage deliveries and supervise visitors.
• Monitor telephone calls and CCTV systems.
• Drive within prison grounds as part of operational duties.

Opportunities and Progression

This position provides valuable insight into prison operations and can serve as a stepping stone to other roles, including possible conversion to Prison Officer through dedicated schemes.
