Job Purpose
The Public Health and Wellness Officer is tasked with supporting company-wide wellness by helping deliver outreach initiatives, education activities, and engagement programs that promote physical and mental wellbeing. This is a people-oriented position that calls for someone who is approachable, confident in communication, and able to inspire participation. The role reports directly to the Wellness Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Support the Wellness Coordinator in planning and rolling out wellness initiatives that connect well with employees and the wider workforce.
- Help encourage participation in health and wellbeing programmes through outreach efforts and motivating communication.
- Assist in delivering wellness activities, health screenings, and educational sessions under the direction of the Wellness Coordinator or relevant specialists.
- Use multiple communication channels such as toolbox talks, lunch-and-learn sessions, newsletters, and social media to promote wellness and fitness activities effectively.
- Prepare and share information, education and communication materials, along with marketing content that explains available activities and services.
- Monitor attendance and involvement in wellness and fitness programmes, keep information confidential, maintain files and records, and produce regular or ad hoc reports from collected data.
- Stay informed about both mining and healthcare industry contexts and apply suitable strategies where needed.
- Build and maintain constructive working relationships with stakeholders.
Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate is required.
- A degree in health promotion, wellness promotion, public health, or a closely related discipline will be an advantage.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and content management systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Creative mindset.
- Ability to motivate others and enjoyment of working with people are essential.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- ZAQA-validated qualifications.
