Position Overview

The Nutrition Officer role is critical in strengthening nutrition services amid active conflict and humanitarian crises in Gaza. This position supports nutrition interventions that focus on prevention and treatment of malnutrition among vulnerable groups. The officer will facilitate screening, referrals, treatment support, community nutrition activities, and integration within primary healthcare, ensuring compliance with national and international nutrition standards and humanitarian principles.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement and oversee integrated nutrition programs such as Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP), Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP), Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP), and Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) in healthcare and community settings.
• Conduct and supervise nutrition screening for children under five years and pregnant/lactating women using multiple assessment methods including MUAC, anthropometry, and edema checks.
• Support the Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) and TSFP by following up with patients, counseling, and tracking treatment progress.
• Assist in BSFP activities including beneficiary identification, registration, distribution management, and monitoring of nutrition supplies.
• Provide counseling on infant and young child feeding practices and maternal nutrition, advocating for exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding.
• Lead growth monitoring sessions and deliver tailored nutritional counseling based on child growth data.
• Engage in community outreach and active case finding to detect malnutrition cases and raise nutrition awareness.
• Ensure precise documentation of patient information and program data, maintaining accuracy and completeness for reporting.
• Facilitate timely data collection and reporting aligned with project and donor expectations.
• Monitor nutrition commodities and coordinate with logistics to avoid stock shortages.
• Collaborate with health, protection, WASH, and community teams for integrated service delivery and referral systems.
• Participate in nutrition cluster coordination meetings as necessary.
• Deliver all nutrition services following humanitarian and safeguarding policies, gender sensitivity, accountability to affected populations, and Do No Harm principles.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure effective program implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, or related discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in nutrition program implementation or clinical/community nutrition service delivery.
• Preferred experience in humanitarian or emergency nutrition contexts.
• Familiarity with CMAM, IYCF, and protocols for treating acute malnutrition.
• Proficient in data management, monitoring, and reporting related to nutrition programs.
• Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure, resource-limited environments.
• Strong communication, coordination, and community engagement skills.
• Commitment to humanitarian ethics and safeguarding standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in conflict zones or hardship areas, such as Gaza.
• Knowledge of WHO nutrition guidelines and Sphere standards.
• Experience collaborating with nutrition and health cluster partners.
• Training in CMAM or emergency nutrition response.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Capability to use standard office equipment and mobility within an office setting.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and willingness to travel internationally.
• Preparedness to work in hardship conditions, including austere environments and extended travel by various transportation means.
• Exposure to typical office noise levels with occasional emergency deployments to resource-poor settings.
