Neighbourhood Worker (Oral Health Support)

Role Overview

Join Lancashire County Council's dedicated team focused on improving children's oral health across the community. This role involves actively participating in the expansion of the Supervised Toothbrushing Programme aimed at early years settings, nurseries, childminders, and families. You will be pivotal in encouraging healthy oral hygiene habits among children to foster positive lifelong health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engaging and informative oral health training to early years staff, childminders, and families.
• Support nurseries and early years settings to implement and maintain a supervised toothbrushing programme.
• Communicate positive oral health messages in an approachable and enjoyable manner.
• Develop strong relationships with practitioners, families, and local community partners.
• Attend community events and visit early years settings across Lancashire to promote oral health initiatives.
• Promote best practices and share success stories within the team.
• Assist settings in obtaining necessary consent, maintaining protocols, and ensuring safe toothbrushing sessions.
• Provide practical resources and guidance to enhance children's oral health.
• Work autonomously while exercising creativity to remove barriers to engagement and participation in the programme.

Candidate Profile

• Experience or knowledge in dental and oral health is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Confident in collaborating with early years settings and families.
• Effective communicator with a friendly and engaging approach.
• Capable of motivating and building trustful relationships.
• Passionate about children's health and developmental wellbeing.
• Highly organised and able to work independently.
• Supports teamwork by sharing ideas and supporting colleagues.
• Flexible and able to travel across Lancashire as needed.
• Committed to safeguarding, equality, and maintaining high standards of practice.

Qualifications and Additional Information

• A Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience is essential.
• Accredited training will be provided to ensure success in the role.
• Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle are required to travel regularly throughout Lancashire.
• This role requires a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and its exceptions.

Terms and Application Details

• Salary ranges from a328,142 to a332,061 annually.
• Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2028.
• Full-time position for 37 hours per week.
• Five full-time positions available with potential for job-sharing arrangements.
