About NAFSCE
The National Association for Family, School and Community Engagement (NAFSCE), founded in September 2014, is dedicated to enhancing effective policies, practices, and research to foster family, school, and community cooperation that improves child development, academic success, and youth outcomes. NAFSCE envisions family and community involvement as a universal strategy to enrich education and promote equity.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Professional Learning will collaborate with other directors and consultants to advance systemic family and community engagement. This role spearheads the creation, launch, and ongoing enhancement of NAFSCE's micro-credentialing aligned with Family Engagement Core Competencies. Responsibilities also include directing training academies, managing the National Assembly for Family Engagement, leading virtual programming and webinar series, overseeing member services, and coordinating contracted Statewide Family Engagement Center (SFEC) services. The position involves conducting national presentations and reinforcing a culture of inclusivity, teamwork, and results-driven leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and refine capacity-building initiatives such as micro-credentialing programs, establishing requirements, selecting platforms, managing enrollment and assessment systems, and coordinating with content experts and technology partners.
- Support and enhance existing academies like the Reframing Academy and Family Math Core Competencies Academy.
- Lead planning and execution of the National Assembly for Family Engagement conference, including managing staff, contractors, board, and volunteers.
- Oversee virtual learning opportunities such as webinars, communities of practice, and network meetings for members and external audiences.
- Collaborate with communications teams to develop and maintain professional learning offerings, supporting effective membership growth and retention.
- Deliver technical assistance to SEAs, SFECs, and school districts, including training development, document review, meetings participation, and state activity reporting.
- Develop marketing strategies for paid technical assistance services in partnership with other directors.
- Manage SFEC contracts and deliverables, coordinate advisory councils, convenings, member services, and online resources in cooperation with NAFSCE staff.
- Co-manage a national professional learning network with monthly virtual meetings and an online learning community in partnership with the National Center for Families Learning.
- Establish evaluation and quality assurance protocols for all professional learning initiatives using data-driven insights.
- Jointly supervise the Manager of Programs and Operations, transitioning toward sole supervision of a dedicated Manager of Programs.
- Recommend improvements to NAFSCE's web content related to learning and capacity building.
- Coordinate staff presentations at various education-related conferences and meetings.
- Engage in strategic organizational planning and development discussions with executive leadership.
- Travel as approved, typically monthly, for presentations, meetings, and visits to the NAFSCE office.
Qualifications
- Proven expertise in designing and managing competency-based professional learning and credentialing programs, including technology platform administration for learning, assessment, and digital badges.
- At least seven years in program management within education or human services focusing on early childhood and K-12 programming.
- Master's degree in education or nonprofit management is highly desirable.
- Experience managing teams comprising staff, consultants, and volunteers.
- Background working with diverse populations across cultural, ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic lines.
- Strong written and oral communication and editing proficiency.
- Familiarity with membership or association management systems is preferred.
- Skilled in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
- Combinations of relevant academic qualifications and professional experience are considered.
Additional Details
- Salary ranges from $100,000 to $110,000 annually.
- Location preference is the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, though applicants nationwide will be considered; travel to office and events is expected.
