Role Overview
The Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) is responsible for overseeing the detection, investigation, and reporting of suspicious financial activities linked to money laundering and financial crimes. This position is tasked with submitting Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs/STRs) to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), executing detailed inquiries into flagged transactions, and aiding the Risk Manager in carrying out regular Anti-Money Laundering (AML) risk assessments. The MLRO acts as the primary contact for AML regulatory matters, ensures AML policies and controls are current, provides management and board-level reporting on AML program status, and supports AML training efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, analyze, and submit suspicious transaction reports (SAR/STR) accurately and promptly to FIU and regulators.
- Conduct comprehensive investigations into flagged activities and document outcomes with recommendations.
- Support enterprise-wide AML risk assessments, working closely with the Risk Manager to identify and address vulnerabilities.
- Serve as the liaison for regulatory AML queries, audits, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain and revise AML policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with evolving laws and risks.
- Provide frequent, clear reports to senior management and the Board regarding AML program effectiveness and risk trends.
- Assist in delivering AML awareness and training sessions focused on detection and reporting of suspicious activities.
- Collaborate with the Compliance team and other relevant stakeholders to reinforce compliance frameworks.
Technology and Tools Experience
- Proficiency with transaction monitoring platforms such as NICE Actimize, FICO TONBELLER, Oracle Mantas, SAS AML.
- Experience using sanctions screening software like World-Check, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, LexisNexis Bridger Insight.
- Familiarity with Customer Due Diligence and KYC tools including ComplyAdvantage, IdentityMind, Onfido, Trulioo.
- Case management system knowledge – AML RightSource, CaseWare, Actimize AML Case Manager.
- Utilization of regulatory reporting tools linked to FIUs or official portals.
- Additional advantage with data analysis and BI tools such as SQL, Tableau, or Power BI.
Candidate Profile
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Demonstrated expertise in AML compliance, SAR/STR reporting, and investigative work.
- Thorough understanding of AML laws, FIU reporting standards, and financial crime schemes.
- Excellent analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.
- CAMS certification is mandatory.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
Organizational Structure and Collaboration
The MLRO will report directly to the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer (CLCO) and the Board of Directors. Close collaboration will occur with the Compliance Director, Risk Manager, legal and audit departments, and other business units responsible for operational processes.
