Role overview
RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician to join its Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) team in Poole. This is a mobile repair role focused on planned servicing and repairs for members at their home or workplace, rather than breakdown recovery.
Pay and working pattern
- Base pay starts at £40,170 a year, with on-target earnings reaching up to £52,000.
- A guaranteed overtime option is available to boost earnings, along with additional overtime and bonus opportunities.
- The working week is 40 hours, typically from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with 1 in 4 Saturdays.
- Availability across Monday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, is mentioned as part of the role’s flexibility.
- After the first month, extra rest-day work can be chosen at £30 per hour.

SMR is a growing area of RAC built around scheduled vehicle maintenance and repair. The work is planned in advance, so you are not dealing with emergency roadside callouts, unpredictable patterns or recovery work. Instead, you receive a clear list of jobs and the time, equipment and support needed to do quality work.
Typical duties
Each day starts with a digital schedule and pre-booked appointments. You will travel to members and carry out servicing, diagnostics and more involved repairs, using mobile workshop equipment and RAC standards to guide the work.
Tools, support and setup
You will be provided with a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, complete tool set and advanced diagnostic equipment from the start.
