Overview

Thomson Reuters is seeking an experienced journalist with exceptional news judgment to lead the coverage of breaking and daily news across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This pivotal role involves managing content in all media formats including text, video, and images, ensuring timely and impactful reporting that serves Reuters’ diverse global clientele.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set editorial priorities for breaking and daily news coverage in collaboration with regional editors and bureau leaders.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-format teams to deliver fast, precise, and influential news outputs.
  • Ensure all content upholds Reuters' standards and meets expectations across platforms.
  • Make swift editorial decisions under pressure during breaking news situations.
  • Work closely with regional and global editorial teams to shape news coverage and strategic direction.
  • Mentor and guide staff to foster an inclusive, high-performing newsroom culture.
  • Promote innovation and experimentation in how breaking news is covered.
  • Oversee and support the Arabic-language news service.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven expertise in breaking news journalism, preferably within a global news organization.
  • Outstanding editorial judgment and the ability to make decisions quickly under high pressure.
  • Strong knowledge of breaking news management across text or visual mediums, with an understanding of complementary disciplines.
  • Experience in managing staff safety in challenging or hostile environments.
  • Successful track record managing diverse teams, potentially spanning multiple locations.
  • Understanding of artificial intelligence tools and their use in newsroom operations.
  • Excellent communication and coordination capabilities.
  • A firm commitment to Reuters’ Trust Principles of independence, integrity, and freedom from bias.

Additional Information

The position is based in Dubai with the possibility of considering other major Middle East cities for suitable candidates. Proficiency in Arabic is highly advantageous. The role reports directly to the Middle East & North Africa Editor.
